In my oral and written
course with Coila King, I learned how important it is to meet all the needs of all the children in their development of the
oral and written language. With a classmate, I created and taught a local kindergarten class reading, writing and listening
skills. We built each lesson from our previous lessons. Our lessons consisted of mini lessons, read aloud’s and many
centers. We had the opportunity to be very creative and the kids loved getting their hands dirty while enjoying practicing
new concepts. Each class would begin in circle time on the rug with a read aloud. We would then introduce the centers and
give a mini lesson with each concept. The students would then receive a menu of centers complete with pictures to help guide
them and we would practice our skills. Ms. Coelho or I would be helping at the class book center while the other was rotating
through the room helping the students at the other centers. Having this experience with the support another teacher in training
has taught me the benefits of collaborating with colleagues. Refining each lesson with the student’s best interest in
mind has led to the best possible experience for the students and ourselves as teachers.
