Reading I has been a very informative and enlightening course. I have come to understand the only way to teach children to read is to immerse them in literature with plenty of opportunities. The six components of reading must be present to give the child a rich literary environment. During this course I created six lessons for a second grade class. One assignment we had that I found very beneficial was to conduct then assess a running record with next steps for the students. This kind of assessment is a wonderful way to easily assess the problem the students are having and then implement the next steps. It also documents the students growth as a reader and skills learned. I know I will use this in my classroom to help my students learn how to read.
