Robert Munsch was born on June 11, 1945 in Pittsburg, Penn. He was not the stellar student in
school, and according to his own autobiography, the teachers passed him from grade to grade out of pity. He couldn't spell
or perform basic math, however, he found his natural talent as a story teller at a young age. He wrote poems and read plenty
of books throughout his youth.
His first choice for a profession was to become a Catholic Priest, however after 7 years
of studies, he discovered this was not his passion. He soon found his passion was children. After he relocated to Canada, his
natural talent of telling stories began to blossom as he worked in a daycare and found he could sooth the children. His boss
soon noticed this, and gave him time off to publish a book. Out of the ten publishers he submitted his material,
only one said yes! Thus, Robert Munsch was discovered.
The success of his books was not immediate, but soon spread across Canada and into the United
States. He has since published 42 books with great success. His passion for children is still strong as he still visits daycares, schools and
orphanages at no cost, and usually woth out notice, His books are inspired by the children he meets and are then written with
them in mind.
If you have not read a Robert Munsch book it is vital to your literary mind and library to purchase at least one
of his books and delve into his stories! I believe you will find him as fascinating as I do!
