Extra Credit Experiences

I spent quite a bit of time in a second grade class with whom I was fortunate enough to experience literature in the classroom with. When I walked in, the students were reading and writing their own stories. Some were original, while others adapted stories they had read into their own creations. I noticed some students would only draw in their writing journals and I pinpointed those students to encourage. We read literature together on the floor and I asked them to tell me their stories. Once I had built a relationship with the students I asked them to write them down. I had three students who never wrote writing me stories and reading them. This was really special for me and for them. We would sit and read and enjoy their work.
Many students also enjoyed reading me their favorite literature that was in the classroom. Had I been thinking, I would have written these down to post on the website, however I was to enthralled with sharing this experience with the student. During freetime in the class, the students would literally sign up to have their turn reading to me. I am blessed to have had this experience with these students.
